Profile of Competition Mentors

A) Suhaimi Bin Haji Said is a principal architect at A.RARE.Studio International, Singapore and has associate offices in Mumbai, Jakarta & Kuala Lumpur. 

He graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Architectural Studies, and continued to obtain his Bachelor of Arts ( Architecture ) and Bachelor of Architecture (Honours ) from Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

Married with 2 boys, he has been a practising architect for 25 years. He started out practising as a design architect for 8 years, then as Principal the last 3 years or so. 

His vast experience includes projects in residential and commercial areas in Singapore, landscape planning in Indonesia and East Malaysia, industrial/commercial planning and design in India, and civic and cultural design in Senegal.

B) Yvonne Yeo has worked in RSP Architects, Planners and Engineers as an intern from 2002-2003. She joined DP Architects after her year-out from 2004-2005 where she handled and participated in a wide range of projects and a few local projects.

Upon completion of her internship program, she left for Australia to pursue a Bachelor of Architecture from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. After her graduation, she returned to DP Architects and started on the National Stadium Competition.

In 2007, she was stationed in DP Shenzhen and handled various projects ranging from masterplanning, residential, commercial and mixed-used developments whilst participating in the National Stadium competition.

Upon winning the National Stadium competition together with her team members in 2008, she returned to Singapore to work on the high profiled Singapore Sports Hub.

In 2009, her team members and her entered the SST competition and were awarded with the project.

She is currently the Project Architect for SST which obtained TOP in Nov 2011. Besides managing SST, she is also involved in a local condominium project named Hedges Park along Flora Drive/Upper Changi Road.

C) Dr James Tan Ah Kat is a deputy director of the School of Design & Environment of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He holds a doctorate degree in design from University of Canberra, Australia, a master degree in engineering from the National University of Singapore and a bachelor degree in engineering from Nanyang Technological University. 

He teaches and supervises product design modules and projects for the Diploma in Product Design & Innovation students. 

Dr James Tan also provides design consultancy for companies and involves in research and development projects in the areas of product design and development.
